Introduction to Local Scan

Important decisions about Jefferson County are made in public meetings, but most people don’t have time to watch long recordings or read large document packets. Local Scan helps you quickly see what happened, what was decided, and what’s coming next—so you can be part of helping shape those decisions.

This site shares factual, plain‑language summaries of key county meetings. Right now we focus on the Board of County Commissioners and plan to expand to other groups, like the planning department.

How it Works

Local Scan uses AI tools to handle the heavy lifting and makes every step easy to check:

  1. We scan the Jefferson County website for recordings and attachments from public meetings.
  2. We use AI to summarize the official transcripts from each meeting.
  3. We use AI to summarize the meeting packets, highlighting key facts and topics.
  4. We combine the transcript and packet summaries into a short, readable overview.

We also publish a quarterly review that looks across many meetings to explain longer-term projects and decisions.

Can you trust AI?

AI can be helpful, but it can also make mistakes. The results depend on the instructions and the information we give it. To keep things transparent, we link to each step of our process and to the original county documents (through Laserfiche), so you can check the work and read the source materials yourself.

How do I give you feedback?

We’re setting up a public suggestion box so you can share ideas, corrections, and requests. Watch this page for an update when it is online.
